MIRA PHILOSOPHY
The MIRA Global Health team believes that transparency, partnership and collaboration are vital to securing a successful future for the Medical Tourism & Global Healthcare industry. We want to partner with and support other organizations that share our passion and goal of promoting education to facilitate the responsible growth of Medical Tourism and Global Healthcare.
“When any industry experiences rapid and international growth, it becomes all the more vital for that industry to provide consumer education while also developing initiatives needed to maintain high standards of quality that will support the long term viability and success of the industry. When it comes to healthcare, the importance of this basic business principle is magnified exponentially.”
- Gregory Garbero, Managing Director of MIRA

WHY MIRA WAS FORMED
There is nothing new about travelling to another country for medical care. Wealthy individuals from other countries have regularly come to America in the past for advanced treatments. Likewise, Americans have gone overseas for specialized or experimental procedures not readily available in North America. The recent explosion in Medical Tourism & Global Healthcare is now being fueled by multiple and, often complex, factors. It is important to note that medical tourism and global healthcare is not undermining the hospitals, doctors and surgeons of the home country because the patient who seeks alternatives outside their home country is normally not able to wait for or afford the needed medical care at home. It is more about quality of life and affordability for the patient than it is about taking business away from their homeland, per the below reasons.
- Choosing to travel for quality of life medical care or needed elective surgical procedures to save money
- Uninsured or Under-insured patients that simply cannot afford the cost of care in their home country
- Significant waiting periods required for certain procedures in their home country, which would cause them substantial loss in quality of life or possibly even threaten their professional careers
- The quality of care and technology available locally, or provided / mandated by their government program, is not at the level that can be received from an internationally accredited doctor or surgeon who is practicing in a state of the art facility that is dedicated to their specific need
The goal of providing the highest quality healthcare combined with the best overall experience for the patient, must always take first priority. This can only be accomplished through establishing guidelines for best practices and by making the much needed educational and informational resources available to the providers, the facilitators and the prospective patients alike. MIRA was formed for two main reasons. To begin with, we want to make valuable information and educational resources readily available to prospective patients that are evaluating which provider is best for their specific needs. In addition to this information push, we want to work closely with our sponsors to promote improvements in technology and help drive the adoption of best practice initiatives that will ultimately support the long term best interest of Medical Tourism, the International community involved and the patients that will benefit.
